Philadelphia Fire Protection Contractor Repairs Penetrations With Fire Stopping
Firestopping
What is Firestopping?
"A process whereby certain materials, some of them specifically manufactured, are used to resist (or stop) the spread of fire and its byproducts through openings made to accommodate penetrations in fire-rate walls, floors, and floor/ceiling assemblies."
Why should Firestops be installed?
Because 75% of deaths caused by fire are the result of smoke inhalation.
Because smoke can move 120-420 fpm during fire conditions.
Because 47% of survivors caught in a fire could not see more than 12 feet.
Because 57% of people killed in a fire are not in the room of the fire’s origin.
The lack of firestopping or improperly installed firestopping materials allow fire and smoke to move between floors and rooms. Properly installed firestopping are monumentally important to the containment of deadly fire, toxic gases and smoke. By protecting any openings in the fire rated floors, walls, and doors, firestopping reduces the risk of death or injury to occupants and the loss of property.
